We’re in the middle of the first of many kiln firings for this Fair.
Right now the kiln is reading approximately 1750 degrees Fahrenheit (whew, that’s hot!). You can’t see it too well in the photos but if you look inside, you can catch a glimpse of a very unusual environment: everything is glowing in tones of red- orange- and white-hot, yet each item can be seen distinctly like a hot coal, every piece of pottery holding it’s form through the fire.
We started this morning at 5 AM. We feed the firebox until the interior temperature reaches about 2400 degrees, then let it hold right there for about half an hour.
