Woven by Little Hands

Did you know that all baskets were woven by hand? There are no machines that can weave baskets, so every one made is handwoven.

A group of small kids wanted to make a gift basket set for the Fair. They set to work about a month ago. First they soaked, wrapped and wove slats into a colorful muffin basket. Then they carefully hand-stitched a bread cloth to line it. Stretching loops, they wove hot pads to match. Then they hand built a pottery butter dish and a toast shaped bread warmer to tuck inside. Next they spent several days learning how to crochet a little scrubby to complete the set. Many hours, lots of learning and a whole lot of fun has crafted these gift baskets – all by children under twelve.
